Goal 2: Open and Honest Communication

2.District 91 will create avenues for open and honest communication with all constituents to ensure involvement in the educational process.

2.1During 2007-2008, the superintendent will create avenues for improved communication by:

2.1.1Redesigning the website to provide useful, meaningful information to the community regarding the district.

2.1.2Holding  monthly “Superintendent’s Coffees” at each school to provide access for communication to parents

2.1.3Providing weekly newsletters to the board of education

2.1.4Providing a biannual newsletter to all staff and key communicators

2.1.5Holding a monthly meeting with the Citizen’s Advisory Council

2.1.6Holding a monthly meeting with the Gaining/Concerns Committee

2.1.7Holding a monthly meeting with the FPTA Executive Board

2.1.8Holding a monthly meeting with the Administrative Team

2.1.9Meeting monthly with the Bridging the Achievement Gap Committee

2.1.10Providing timely and relevant information to the board at each monthly board meeting and on an as needed basis when necessary

2.1.11Conducting an annual survey to assess community satisfaction with our schools

2.1.12Attending Chamber of Commerce/Main Street Association meetings

2.2During 2007-2008, the principals of each Forest Park Public School will create opportunities for improved communication by:

2.2.1Providing a written communication to all parents at least once a month (newsletters, Thursday packets, etc.)

2.2.2Ensuring that the elementary teachers make one positive communication to the guardian of each child, once a month

2.2.3Ensuring that middle school teams send communications home to parents once a month regarding student achievement, assignments, etc.

2.2.4Providing timely and relevant information to parents when incidents occur at school that require notification

2.2.5Maintaining a school website, linked to the district website that contains up-to-date and appropriate information about the school.

2.2.6Working with the staff and parent organizations in their schools to identify other opportunities for improved communication  

2.2.7Scheduling formal parent-teacher conferences
2.2.8Evaluating the parent-teacher conference procedures at the middle school

2.2.9Providing at least three opportunities during the school year for parents/guardians to interact with the school through formal programs (i.e. curriculum night, open house, Star Parent, etc.)
